HELIBIKE

The HELIBIKE adventure between CERVINIA (I) and ZERMATT (CH)

THE PROGRAM

We start the day by meeting at 7.20 in the morning at the departure of the cable car CERVINIA (I) with subsequent arrival at the glacier PLATEAU ROSÀ 3500m.

After getting off the cable car, we have a coffee at the Rifugio delle GUIDE del CERVINO before we get ready for the first cycling of the day down towards ZERMATT (CH). During the initial 40 minutes of cycling we will be cycling on a surface completely covered in snow and ice, and especially on that stretch it will be important to listen carefully to the instructions of your guide. The feeling of experiencing snow and ice even in the middle of summer is a bit unreal.

After you reach the end of the glacier, you enter the moraine area and can choose between 3 different routes to continue the bike ride down the mountain. The most special is ICE LINE (YouTube video)  which passes just under the eastern wall of CERVINO / MATTERHORN and crosses the zone of the glacial lakes characterized by the different colors of the water in each lake.

On the way down we will pass the Hörnli ridge which opens up to get up to the Cervino/Matterhorn on the Swiss side. After passing SCHWARZSEE, we continue the descent towards ZERMATT, which is reached after cycling about 2000 meters of fall. When you cross the border you will understand why this resort is so talked about ;)

You will then cycle to the AIR ZERMATT base, a top airline with helicopters for mountain flying. Before you get into the helicopter, the guide will have a briefing to inform you about boarding, flying and disembarking. The helicopter will then fly the group back to the PLATEAU ROSÀ glacier located at an altitude of 3500 meters.

There are two flight routes available, the direct one which in about 7-8 minutes flight takes you to the Plateau Rosa glacier or the TOUCH THE MATTERHORN flight which includes a 20 minute panoramic flight between the Swiss glaciers including a complete tour around the summit of CERVINO / MATTERHORN at 4500m. Watch this video to give you an idea of what to expect er MOVIE THE ICE LINE (YouTube video).

After landing on the Plateau Rosà, the guide makes an assessment of the terrain conditions and then we start the second cycle ride down the mountain, this time in   Italian territory, towards CERVINIA, continuing along the VALTOURNENCHE and arriving at the village of Antey Saint Andrè after a descent of 2500 meters.

With the transfer service which takes about 10 minutes, you will arrive in the town of TORGNON where the final descent begins and where we have another 1400 meters of altitude to descend by bike. Once down, we return to the base with the help of the transfer service after a day of fantastic cycling which, with only three downhills, offered a height difference of about 6000 meters between glaciers, lakes, forests and singletrack between ITALY and SWITZERLAND.
